Workshop “Urban Signs and Symbols”


ISI Yogyakarta in cooperation with Hochschule of Ulm, Germany held a joint-workshop at Faculty of Visual Arts, ISI Yogyakarta on May 10th – 13th, 2016. The workshop was first implemented in 2014 at ISI Yogyakarta, while the second one was held in Hochschule Ulm, Germany in 2015. For this year, the workshop was held at ISI Yogyakarta. To have sustainable cooperation and continuously program for both institutions, the joint-workshop in 2017 would be implemented in Germany.

The theme of this workshop was “Urban Signs and Symbols” which was presented by Professor Susanne Radtke. The opening of the workshop was conducted by Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. M. Agus Burhan, M. Hum. who said that this kind of cooperation is very important for both sides and would be very useful to be developed in the near future.

The workshop was attended by 13 students of Digital Media of Hochschule Ulm, Germany and 11 students of Visual Communication Design, ISI Yogyakarta. The workshop lasted for 4 days (May 10th -13th, 2016) at Sasana Aji Yasa, Faculty of Visual Arts, ISI Yogyakarta. The programs of these two institutions were started by having a cultural trip to Kotagede region and observing the murals areas around Malioboro, Kotabaru and Lempuyangan. The program was finished by presenting the results of the workshop by all participants at Djoko Pekik’s Studio, Sembungan, Bantul. The presentation of the workshop was also attended by Prof. M. Dwi Marianto, Heri Dono, and Linda Kaun who provided valuable input to the workshop as well.
