Professional Orientation Study (SOP) for students of the Craft Study Program, FSRD ISI Yogyakarta to LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Singapore

A total of 15 students and 6 lecturers of the Craft Study Program conducted SOP activities to two leading art campuses in Singapore, namely Lasalle College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Singapore, from 8-10 October 2024. The group led by the Head of the Craft Study Program, Dr. Alvi Lufiani, M.F.A and Secretary of the Department Retno Purwandari, M.A, was received by Hazel Lim (Program Leader, BA (Hons) Fine Arts), Dr. Ian Woo (Program Leader, MA Fine Arts), Adeline Kueh (Senior Lecturer, Fine Arts) and Lidya Chrisfens (Senior Lecturer, Fashion Department). During the visit, the Head of the Craft Study Program gave a short presentation about the Craft Study Program FSRD ISI Yogyakarta in front of the teaching staff at Lasalle, Singapore. After that, a short discussion between the two campuses and questions and answers. Continued with a campus tour to the Fine Arts and Fashion Design Departments. At the NAFA campus, in addition to the campus tour, students had the opportunity to see a solo exhibition of fine art by an artist who is an alumni of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta, namely Anagard with a fairly unique exhibition title, namely: From Nasi Padang to the World. Of course, this was very impressive because in addition to being able to talk directly with the artist, students gained insight and motivation so that they could later become professional artists or international-level art workers.

During this visit, in addition to the two art campuses, students also had the opportunity to visit the National Design Center Singapore and see works of art with themes that were up to date and responded to the times. Sustainable issues, up-cycle and green art became hot topics of discussion held at the National Design Center. In addition to LASALLE College of the Arts, NAFA and the National Design Center, the SOP for the 2024 Craft study program students also had the opportunity to visit Gardens by the Bay, Merlion Park and sightseeing in the iconic Singapore area. Students who participated in this SOP felt very grateful to have gained a very valuable experience, considering that SOP abroad like this was the first time for Craft study program students in particular and FSRD ISI Yogyakarta students in general. Hopefully, this valuable experience can continue to be carried out continuously because it enriches the students’ horizons and becomes an unforgettable memory.
